SIA adds HK to A380 network

SINGAPORE Airlines, the world's biggest by market value, will start operating the Airbus A380 to Hong Kong next month.

The operation of the 471-seat A380 to Hong Kong, which represents an increase of 10 percent in seat capacity to the city, shows SIA's confidence in the demand for both business and leisure travel between the two cities, the carrier said in a statement yesterday.

The daily A380 flights, from July 9, will replace an existing daily Boeing 777-300ER service to Hong Kong, which will be the fifth international point and second Asian city that SIA flies the world's largest passenger aircraft to.

SIA, which was the first airline to put the A380 in commercial service, now operates five daily non-stop flights between Singapore and Hong Kong, along with daily non-stop services between Hong Kong and San Francisco.

SIA started flying the A380 in October 2007 to Sydney, and subsequently added London, Tokyo and Paris.

SIA has eight A380s in service, a further 11 on order, and options for six more.
