10 lines by 2020
HANGZHOU will have 10 Metro lines by 2020, according to urban planners. The city is also aiming to develop 60 million square meters of underground spaces, integrating parking lots, transit hubs, pedestrian tunnels, commercial areas, warehouses and air defense facilities.
Hangzhou's Metro Line 1 went into operation on November 24, the first line in a network that will cover downtown and sub-centers by the end of 2020 when the city will have 200 Metro stations downtown.
The city's urban planners said they would give priority to build underground facilities such as pedestrian tunnels and parking lots around public activity areas, large transportation hubs and other major public facilities.
