8,000 fires last year

More than 8,000 fires occurred in Hangzhou last year, causing direct economic losses of over 78 million yuan, according to the Hangzhou firefighting authorities.
The fires caused 13 deaths, 16 people burned and buildings of more than 240,000 square meters destroyed. Police said that electricity was the main cause, and apartments as well as vehicles were major locations for fire disasters. Also, the peak time for fires was noon to midnight.
