900,000 online shops

ZHEJIANG Province is home to almost 900,000 online shops, accounting for almost 15 percent of China's total, a survey has found.

Last year, online shops in Zhejiang contributed more than 202.7 billion yuan (US$33 billion) sales volume, accounting for 16.22 percent of national online trade, according to a joint survey conducted last year by the Zhejiang Administration of Industry and Commerce and the Zhejiang Online Commerce Association.

The online economy has also benefited local industries. Zhili Town in Huzhou, a production base of children's clothes, worked with Taobao.com, China's largest online trading platform, to promote the town's more than 1,000 children's clothes shops online, creating an annual trading volume of 350 million yuan.

Online trading has also brought job opportunities for Zhejiang farmers. The statistics show that more than 3.5 million farmers were involved and that each online shop can create 1.63 jobs for farmers.
