Alibaba inks deal
E-commerce giant Alibaba has partnered with Hunan TV and film production and distribution firm DMG Entertainment to launch China鈥檚 first home entertainment platform that bundles Internet, phone and television.
The package, which includes Alibaba鈥檚 massive range of film and TV, shopping, music, gaming and education content as well as DMG鈥檚 foreign film library, will initially be offered to Hunan TV鈥檚 6 million cable TV subscribers, the partners said at a launch ceremony in Changsha.
鈥淲ith the integration of television and Internet, the combination of terminal, technology and content will truly be realized,鈥 said Zhang Yong, Alibaba鈥檚 CEO.
Customers will also be able to purchase products through their televisions.
The move is part of Alibaba鈥檚 expansion of its entertainment business. It said in June that it would launch a streaming service called TBO in the coming months.
