Amateur shutterbugs capture some truly wonderful moments
HANGZHOU is considered by many as "heaven on Earth" because of its beautiful scenery and leisurely pace of life. Over the years, this has generated a passion for photography among many residents.
Some of these amateur photographers are very skilled and have a keen eye for detail.
The Fifth Hangzhou Citizen Photography Festival, which ended yesterday, showcased more than 3,000 photographs taken by the city's amateur shutterbugs.
Since its debut in 2008, the festival has collected more than 60,000 photos, of which 6,000 have been exhibited.
As the first citizen photography festival in the country, it focuses on common folk with the theme of recording the changes in their lives.
This year, the festival was divided into three categories - Happy Hangzhou, Free Style and Famous Photographers. Visitors could find everything from beautiful landscapes and pictures about rapid changes in urban development to funny moments in daily life.
The exhibit even included photos taken by foreigners who live in the city.
Colombian Juan Carlos is a student at the China Academy of Art. A dozen of his works about West Lake were on exhibit.
One of the most eye-catching photos depict two girls "walking" on a rope bridge. It was taken this summer by Zhejiang University student Zhu Xuan while he was volunteering as a teacher in Liangshan, a poverty-stricken area in Sichuan Province.
Inspired by Zhu's photo, photography website Kpkpw.com organized a charity bazaar during the festival.
It sold photos donated by photographers to raise money to help build a bridge for children in Liangshan.
