Big plans laid out

The Hangzhou government announced 10 life-improvement projects it will carry out in 2015 in a report delivered to the city congress. They cover employment, environment, food safety, and transportation.

The city plans to create 229,100 jobs this year and help 107,200 jobless people get employed again.

Thirty polluted rivers in the urban districts are to be cleaned up, totaling 37.6 kilometers in length and 300 kilometers of rural rivers will be cleaned up as well this year. Meanwhile, 623 villages will have sewage systems, benefiting more than 190,000 homes.

The first phase of Metro Line 4 and the Xiasha extension of Metro Line 1 will go into operation this year and the city will add 10 bus routes, 100 bike rental stations, 3,000 public bikes and 46,000 car-parking spaces.

The city will cover all large and medium-sized catering companies with a food safety monitoring system and raise supervision of small eateries.

Heavy-polluting vehicles will be banned in Hangzhou and 2,500 new-energy vehicles will be added to the roads this year.

Other projects include installing lamps in 1,000 public spots, increasing public green space by 2.6 million square meters, establishing 1,300 parcel-delivery stations, and providing legal assistance to 100,000 people.
