NEW video surveillance measures will cover 18 shipping channels along 40 kilometers of the Hangzhou section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal by the end of the year, Hangzhou's transport and maritime administrative authority has said.
The 18 monitoring spots are mostly located at accident black spots. A global positioning and auto-verification system, automatically tracking laser thermal imaging system and a video capture system will be deployed in key areas.
Maritime transport officials say the system will allow them to respond more quickly to accidents and other emergencies.
