China gets an AI town
CHINA (Hangzhou) Artificial Intelligent Town was inaugurated in Yuhang District on Sunday. More than 90 institutions have already agreed to move into the new tech town.
With a planned area of 3.43 square kilometers, the AI town is at the center of the Hangzhou Future Science City. Its first phase of 11 high-rise buildings, totaling 300,000 square meters of floor space, includes apartments, hotels, cafes, restaurants, gyms and convenience stores.
“We are attracted by its advantages in innovation, human resources, and private equity funds,” said Hao Aimin, deputy director of the Virtual Reality Technology and System Laboratory of Beihang University in Beijing.
There are 10 artificial intelligence research communities, including Alibaba, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Baidu.com that have signed agreements to locate their R&D centers in the town.
The Global Artificial Intelligence Forum was also held at the Future Science City on Sunday.
