City among hottest

HANGZHOU has been listed as one of China's four hottest cities in summer by the China Meteorological Administration.

Hangzhou is in third place, with the first two hottest being Fuzhou in southeastern China's Fujian Province and Chongqing Municipality in southwestern China. Haikou, capital of southern China's Hainan Province, is in the fourth place.

The list is based mainly on the number of days with high temperatures over 35 degrees Celsius. Hangzhou has an average of 27.2 days annually. Fuzhou and Chongqing have an average of 32.6 days and 29.6 days, respectively, while Haikou has 26.3 days.

To date there were only three days with high temperatures below 35 degrees in July. In the coming week, the highs are expected to hover around 37 degrees.

Traditionally, Chongqing, Wuhan in central China's Hubei Province, Nanjing in neighboring Jiangsu Province and Changsha in central Hunan Province were considered the hottest cities in China.

The criteria for the list includes the average temperature and the perceptions of people, meteorologists said.
