Delegates draw trade overseas
THE Hangzhou government has recently undertaking successful investment-attracting activities in the United States and Europe. The process has publicized Hangzhou's great investment environment and consolidated communication between both sides.
On September 14, a delegation of the Hangzhou government led by Tong Guili, the vice mayor of Hangzhou, attended the Gartner Outsourcing Summit in Orlando, US. The event serves the outsourcing industry, attracting more than 1,000 high-end international buyers and sellers. As one of the most important platforms for the outsourcing business, the Gartner Outsourcing Summit is held every year in North America, Japan and Europe.
At the summit in Orlando, a special Hangzhou Outsourcing Service Cooperation Conference was held by the Hangzhou government and the Gartner Company. It was the first time a Chinese city delegation attended and held a communication conference since 2007 when Chinese enterprises were first involved in the summit. Thirty-seven famous foreign outsourcing businesses such as Microsoft, BT Global, Allianz Life and Sun Trust attended the conference along with many domestic companies including ChinaSoft International, Beyond Soft, iSoft Stone and Insigma.
At the conference, Hangzhou Vice Mayor Tong Guili detailed the current development situation and advantages of Hangzhou's service outsourcing industry, and some of Hangzhou's local outsourcing businesses shared their experiences with foreign enterprises. After the conference, many foreign outsourcing businesses indicated that they will pay more attention to the Hangzhou market and look for possible opportunities for cooperation with its local enterprises.
During their visit to the US, Tong and her delegation also met Tim Leiweke, the CEO of AEG Live at the headquarters of AEG in Los Angeles. In the meeting, Leiweke introduced the various operations of AEG to Tong, while Tong detailed the progress and future plans for the construction of the Hangzhou Olympic Center. Further cooperation was also discussed in the meeting.
Another Hangzhou business delegation visited Fairfax County in Virginia. Fairfax County is the commercial and science center of the Washington metropolitan area. It is home to half of the metropolitan area's Fortune 500 companies.
President of Fairfax County Sharon Bulova received the Hangzhou delegation with Global 500 representatives and local government officials from international trade, education and tourism departments. During the visit, the Hangzhou delegation also paid a visit to the new headquarters of Insigma's US branch and some famous IT enterprises such as Vertive, Indeed and HomeAway.
In Europe, the 2010 Hangzhou-Europe Investment Attracting Week was held in Britain, the Czech Republic and Poland. During the event, the Hangzhou European business delegation visited over 10 foreign governments and business bureaus and held six investment-attracting conferences.
In addition, they also paid visits to more than 10 famous enterprises including the headquarters of Tesco in Britain. The Hangzhou Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau also organized for 15 Hangzhou businesses to participate in the high-end international trade exhibition, the Birmingham International Gardening Tools Exposition.
