PER capita spending on education by Hangzhou's urban residents reached 1,273 yuan last year, 23.2 percent more than in 2011, the local statistics bureau said recently.
Expenses on training courses and home tutoring made up the bulk part of Hangzhou people's educational spending, averaging 134 yuan and 520 yuan, respectively.
Official statistics show that educational spending by the low-income group averaged 1,214 yuan per person, more than other income groups. Officials said this indicates that low-income families are spending more on education in order to improve their opportunities.
