Expo water bonus
EVERY visitor to the Hangzhou Pavilion at World Expo 2010 Shanghai will receive a free octagonally shaped bottle of water.
The 350-milliliter bottle will be in a transparent blue color similar to the color of Expo mascot Haibao and the color of Hangzhou's city logo.
The bottle's shape is similar to the shape of bricks used in the Hangzhou Pavilion and its shape also makes it easy to handle.
The bottle features two bulging hexagons with concave circles on each side which symbolize Hangzhou's wells.
The significance of the water gift to Expo patrons is that it echoes the Hangzhou Pavilion's theme of "five water elements leading to the city."
One of the circles is embossed with the Hangzhou city logo, and the other bears the logo of Hangzhou Wahaha Group, the designing and manufacturing company which is also the leading beverage company in China.
The bottle of water will only be distributed at Expo site but the sentiment of the gift will be extended by Wahaha at West Lake Expo this October in a public benefit program reminding people to adopt low consumption habits and eco-friendly attitudes.
The Hangzhou Pavilion's five water elements are large river (jiang) - Yangtze River; river (he) - Grand Canal; lake (hu) - West Lake; sea (hai) - East China Sea and creek (xi) - Xixi Wetland.
All of these pass through, or are adjacent to, Hangzhou.
The pavilion will display Hangzhou's ancient and modern stories about water control by "reading," "talking about," "listening" and "tasting" water.
