Fireworks canceled

This year’s West Lake International Expo will no longer have a fireworks display as the city joins the nationwide anti-extravagance campaign.

Gala celebrations and banquets also have been canceled, said Huang Feng, deputy director of the Organizing Committee of the Hangzhou West Lake International Expo.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China last Tuesday issued a directive banning government officials from using public funds to buy mooncakes or hold banquets as the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day holidays are approaching.

The anti-extravagance campaign was launched in June by the Party to strengthen ties between government officials and ordinary people and eliminate red tape and official corruption.
