HANGZHOU Mayor Shao Zhanwei on Monday visited city centenarians Yang Meiying and Chen Yuanshan to deliver Chongyang Festival greetings, flowers, red envelopes and a stone seal.
The city government sent 1,000 yuan to each of Hangzhou's 414 centenarians. They also received a special seal with four Chinese characters, Qi Yi Zhi He, meaning "congratulations on 100 years."
The number of centenarians in the city rose to 414 last year - 115 men and 299 women.
Liu A'er from Xiaoshan District is the oldest woman in Hangzhou at 110 years old. In Zhejiang Province, there were 1,390 centenarians at the end of last year.
The Chongyang Festival, or Double Ninth Festival, is celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth month on the Chinese lunar calendar. It fell on Tuesday this year.
