Improved air quality

THE city’s PM2.5 air pollution reading in 2016 is expected to be 16.9 percent lower than in 2013, Hangzhou environment officials said.

They said Hangzhou recorded 14 more days with good or excellent air quality last year as compared with 2014. Its average PM2.5 reading in 2015 was also the lowest in recent years.

The city government has launched a campaign to connect 4,529 sewage pipes with treatment plants and clean up 48 rivers this year.

By the end of May, over 30 rivers had been cleaned up and 60 percent of local rivers will meet Level 4 this year, officials said.
