Local tourism show based on TV鈥檚 鈥楧ad鈥 hit
HANGZHOU is running a tourism promotion show based on “Where Are We Going, Dad?” — the popular TV reality show that has celebrity dads accompanying their children on a three-day trip to experience village life.
The Hangzhou TV show “Where Are We Going for Spring Tour?” is inviting fathers, mothers and kids to tour villages in Hangzhou.
The show began two weeks ago and will end in June. It is being run by the Hangzhou Tourism Commission and Hangzhou TV Station. Now it is recruiting families of children aged from 3 to 7 (candidates should speak basic Chinese). All selected families will take part in a two-day trip in Hangzhou.
Destinations are mostly set in rural areas, including Jiande, Chun’an, Fuyang, the three county-level cities of Hangzhou, as well as Yuhang and Xiaoshan districts.
In the first episode, five families visited Jiande city, where they preserved vegetables, made pies, picked asparagus, planted trees and produced some bonsai creations.
The show is to promote “leisure tourism” because “the golden age of China’s leisure tourism is coming, since improving the system of paid leave is on the central government’s agenda,” said Wang Xinzhang, deputy director of the Hangzhou Tourism Commission.
The TV show casts two weeks at a time, and 36 families will be selected in 12 shows in total. Families from home and abroad and mixed. Those interested are welcome to add the WeChat account “hzsjxx” and then click “I want to apply” to register. The account is in Chinese.
More than 500 families have applied, and the number of fans of the WeChat account exceeds 55,000.
The show does not charge, but an interview with the families is required. “The standards include kids’ communications skills and acting abilities,” said Fu Weiquan, an official of the commission.
Wang also said the reality show purpose is to “expose viewers to some good tourism programs as examples of what is available.”
The commission is also promoting “Hangzhou Outdoor Leisure Season” spring tourism packages from March to May.
The city’s annual Mountain Marathon sporting event, held last Saturday, launched the leisure season promotion. Around 1,500 runners from home and abroad participated.
