Odor plant closed
A factory producing traditional Chinese medicine products on Jiaogong Road in Hangzhou has been shut down, to the relief of residents living in nearby communities who had long complained about a foul, strong smell from the plant.
The city had included the factory in its environment renovation project in 2009.
The closure of the factory will cut 577 kilograms of carbon dioxide and 263 kilograms of ammonia emissions each year, said officials.
Hangzhou has closed or relocated 422 enterprises in Banshan and Beida Bridge areas in the last six years.
As a key factory of its kind in China, the plant, with 160 employees, occupied 1.07 hectares of land and achieved an output value of 36.16 million yuan and tax revenues of 12.21 million yuan each year.
