THE annual Hangzhou Foreign-invested Enterprises Service Month started with a consultation fair to foreign-invested firms on Wednesday.
Invited by Hangzhou Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau, officials from nearly 30 government departments attended the fair to popularize the latest policies and answer company representatives' questions.
Dong Junwei, manager of Economy Development Department of East E-Commerce Park in Jianggan District arrived with dozens of representatives from foreign-invested companies based at the park.
"Our park is home to many foreign-invested firms, and we are here mainly to learn about issues about tax and foreign employees," Dong said. "We'll convey what we've learned to other staff in our park."
There were similar cases. Carrying a stack of materials, Fang Xiaobo and his partner from a Taiwan fund enterprise have stayed at the fair for more than two hours asking questions from one government sector to another.
"Here we can solve problems face to face, instead of calling departments again and again," Fang said.
However, the event is only once a year, and only for half a day, so how can companies get help during the rest of the year?
Hangzhou Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau has used Internet to facilitate the communication problem, including eight QQ (an instant messenger) groups and an official service outsourcing Twitter (http://t.sina.com.cn/1781280897).
"The QQ group helps government know what the firms are concerned about and we use Twitter to publish the latest news and policies," said Zhu Lin, deputy director of the Service Department for Enterprises with Foreign Investment of Hangzhou Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau.
Zhu said the eight QQ groups now boast nearly 1,000 members, including representatives of foreign-funded companies, as well as experts and public employees from the government.
