Railway delayed

THE opening of the Hangzhou-Nanjing high-speed railway has been delayed from February 28 to June, officials said last week. The high speed railway underwent a test run in December.

The delay was caused by a train collision that killed 40 people in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, in July 2011.

The line is designed to cut the travel time between Hangzhou and Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, from three hours to about 60 minutes.

The line has five stations in Zhejiang and six stations in Jiangsu. Hangzhou East Railway Station is still under construction and upon completion will become the largest railway terminal in Zhejiang.

Nanjing South Railway Station has already opened. There are also stations in Deqing, Huzhou, Changxing, Yixing, Liyang, Wawushan, Lishui, Jurong and Jiangning.

Tickets from Hangzhou to Nanjing will cost about 120 yuan each.
