Rice price

NEWLY-HARVESTED rice from northeast China is hitting the Hangzhou market with prices as high as 200 yuan (US$32) a kilogram.

Local residents prefer new rice from northeastern China, thanks to its fresh smell, soft and appropriate sticky feel and high water content. In addition, the quality of the rice there is considered to be the best in China.

New rice from Hubei Province in central China, however, is only around 7 yuan per kilogram as it is considered a standard area for rice.

The price of rice will stabilize next month as the bulk of newly harvested rice reaches the local market, officials said.
