Road heritage status

The city’s Zhongshan Road M. is among the first batch of 30 streets and neighborhoods in China to receive heritage protection in a recent list from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.

Zhongshan Road M. was an imperial road in the capital of Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), then called Lin’an. During the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), the road was a bustling commercial street.

The 1,500-meter-long street has time-honored shops and a temple. The protected area is 23.6 hectares.
