Seeking trade and investment
THE Hangzhou government sponsored the 2011 Hangzhou-EU Investment Promotion Week in the UK, Finland, Sweden and Austria back in May.
The week was designed to promote the city and lure investment. The municipal government introduced the city's overall investment environment, encouraged further progress on projects already underway and gathered much information about potential investment deals.
Deputy Mayor Tong Guili headed a government delegation from the Hangzhou Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau that visited vital economic sectors and chambers of commerce in the four countries.
In addition, the group held two investment fairs, visited noted foreign companies and signed three memorandums of understanding to strengthen economic and trade cooperation.
During the week, more than 40 EU-based companies expressed interest in investing in Hangzhou.
Delegates from Hangzhou's Gongshu and Binjiang districts, Lin'an City, Fuyang City and Hangzhou Urban Construction Group also took part in the trip.
Meanwhile, the Zhejiang provincial government held the Zhejiang Province–State Investment and Trade Meeting as well as the 30th anniversary of state-province relationship between Zhejiang Province and US states of Indiana and New Jersey from July 18 to 21.
Zhejiang Province Party Secretary Zhao Hongzhu attended both events.
Forty-five delegates from 20 famous Hangzhou enterprises, including Alibaba, Wahaha and Xizi United Holding Cooperation, took part in the activities. They consulted with more than 40 American companies and reached cooperative arrangements on over 10 projects.
During the investment and trade meeting, four contracts were signed worth a combined US$2 billion.
Meanwhile, Hangzhou government officials visited American companies such as Lerner Group, General Electric and television network NBC in order to attract investment and promote cooperation between the government and enterprises.
