Translation review

The West Lake Scenic Area Administration is reviewing all local signboards to correct poor translations that might confuse foreign visitors.

They invited English and Chinese language experts to decide on the English names of many tourist sites and set translation rules in a week-long workshop. They will set rules for translating a place name in pinyin or by the meaning of its name.

A new tourist guide published by the administration this month will adopt the official English names for roads and sights in the West Lake area.
