UNESCO World Heritage Sites in China
ADDITION of the West Lake Natural Landscape to the UNESCO World Heritage list brings the number of World Heritage sites in China to 41. China ranks a close third in number after Italy and Spain.
Listing began in 1987 with five sites - Imperial Palaces of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties in Beijing; Shenyang Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor, Mogao Caves, Mountain Tai and the Great Wall.
