Elderly care high on agenda as district aging
RESIDENTS aged over 60 totaled 184,800 in Changning District last year, representing 31.5 percent of the population and turning the district into an aging society.
Therefore, it is high on the agenda of the Changning District government to provide better care for its elderly residents and targets are set in its 13th Five-Year-Plan (2016-2020).
Its civil affairs bureau has teamed up with the health and family planning commission to build a database for the medical files of people aged 65 and more and to arrange family doctors and health exams for them.
Local nursing homes and hospitals also establish a mutual referral system. Of the 38 nursing homes in the district, 11 already have their own clinics and two are making preparations for in-house clinics.
For disabled seniors, the district will provide a comprehensive solution that combines hospital treatment, nursing home rehabilitation and long-term home care.
Changning also encourages social organizations and enterprises to provide home care services and operate nursing homes in communities.
