First-of-its-kind association launched
The Shanghai Changning District Art Museum Association, China’s first cross-institutional cultural association, came into being on December 5, marking a further step in the reform of local cultural organizations.
In recent years officials in the district have actively promoted the development of local cultural venues, pushing the number of galleries, museums and memorial halls to nearly 50.
To expand the local arts scene and effectively integrate resources, art institutions in the district are setting up cross-border trade associations, cooperating with department stores, art schools, banks and the media while simultaneously strengthening inter-venue communication.
This trend coincides with city-wide reforms to the Shanghai’s art venues and facilities. The newly founded art museum association has also welcomed aboard experts like Chen Peiqiu, a calligrapher and painter, as consultants.
These experts will form a think-tank to advise authorities on how to improve the district’s cultural polices during the 13th Five-year Plan period.
