Community center begins trial run
Gui Hongmei, a retired resident of the Hope Community in Jiading New City, went to its community center recently to learn piano, in a bid to fulfuill a dream she has had since childhood.
Hope’s community center is the first of its kind in Jiading New City and began trial operation several weeks ago at seven centers and a school.
“There are more than 4,000 residents in the community, and we hope to set up the community center to offer colorful activities to attract residents,” Ge Xiaojing, the community’s deputy secretary, said.
The centers and the school are fully equipped with modern facilities, including a piano, gym equipment, table tennis, an oven for baking, art facilities, a children’s activity room and a traditional Chinese medicine hall where doctors answers the resident’s questions about health.
“The activity rooms in the community center make it possible for residents to enjoy conveniences and services within 15 minutes. We hope they can come over to relax or study in their spare time,” said Ren Yinling, deputy director of the community.
Li Xiaolan, a keen singer and dancer, has been active in the community since her retirement in organizing art and culture activities. She has been invited to be a piano teacher at the center.
“We are contacting some social organizations to run the activities through buying services. We will make full use of the resources in the community to recruit more volunteers,” Ge said.
