Country pursuits for holiday visitors
During the National Day holiday from October 1 to 7, many people escaped to the countryside in Jiading.
At Juyuan Orchard, visitors picked fruit that included kiwi fruits, figs and persimmon. During the 7-day holiday the orchard received 8,419 visitors, and most of them are families.
“We hope our kid can have more chance to get in touch with nature and know how the fruits grow,” the mother of a 5-year-old said.
Visitors also enjoyed barbecues, canoeing competitions and campfire parties organized by the orchard.
Around 19,000 visitors a day traveled to Maoqiao Market in Huating Town to take part in activities that included sesame oil milling, winemaking and fermented glutinous rice soup making and yellow grass weaving to make coasters.
“My mom always cooks fermented glutinous rice soup for me, and today I make it for my mom,” said Huang Yingying, a primary school student.
Other activities at the market included eating contests.
The fun activities will last till November, according to the market operator. They also plan to hold an angling competition and a rose wedding after the holiday.
