Digital TV upgrades in the cards for 300,000 families
THE next-generation of radio and TV networks has been launched in Jiading District.
By the end of the year, the district will complete radio and TV network upgrades for 120,000 households.
It will also install digital TV facilities for another 80,000 families. By 2015, about 300,000 families in the district will be able to watch digital TV.
Jiading will complete the radio and TV network upgrade by 2014 and digital cable TV installation by 2015.
This year, the district will focus on 80,000 households in Anting, Nanxiang and Zhenxin sub-districts, while the next year, the district will complete the work for 100,000 households in other nine towns and sub-districts.
In 2014, the radio and TV network upgrades for 54,000 households in rural areas will be completed and in 2015, the digital cable TV service will cover another 50,000 families in rural areas.
During the transition period, each user will get two set-top boxes (one with an interactive interface and another with basic receiving function). Residents have to pay for extra devices if they need three or more set-top boxes.
After the transfer period, analog signals will be shut down, except six channels of CCTV and some channels of Shanghai so that families outside the program can still watch them for free.
All the analog signals will be shut down in 2015, according to the central government's statement.
After the transfer, residents can enjoy clearer images and more programs.
