Farmers study

MORE than 40 farmers residing in Luyuan No.5 Residential Area in Huangdu Town of Jiading District were taught some basic English conversations which might be used during World Expo 2010 by a foreigner and a group of college students on May 14. The farmers insisted on learning for nearly two hours despite the high temperature.Chess for kids

A Shanghai Kindergarten Chess Game was held on May 10 in Jiading. More than 200 children from 16 kindergartens attended the game and the Shaxia Road Kindergarten was one of the four championships.

Coming clean

A Family Volunteer Clean-up Action was held on May 15 in Jiading. There were 500 potted flowers on offering to be exchanged with used batteries, and more than 300 volunteers helped with the clean-up.

Trees rediscovered

Three cypress trees, each over 100 years old, have been found in a bamboo garden in Huangdu Town. According to local old people, they used to play in the thick-branched cypresses when they were kids.

Agreement signed

Zhenxin Subdistrict of Jiading and the Medical School of Tongji University have signed an agreement to co-establish a medical community on May 16. Meanwhile, Zhenxin Community Medical Service Station, Tongji University Medical School Zhenxin Intership Base and Zhenxin Volunteer Base were established.

Expo opera

A Wonderful show "Greeting Expo" was staged for 600 villagers by a traditional opera salon in Xuhang Village on May 12. Since it was established last May, the salon has given over 50 performances to 15,000 people.

Medical honors

Ten best doctors and 10 best nurses were honored at the celebration of the 97th International Nurse Day on May 11 in Jiading.
