Gear up for AR windshield device

Located in Jiading New City, Wayray Automotive Technology Co Ltd is developing a holographic Augmented Reality device which can not only display navigation information on the windshield of a car but also offer customized services to help drivers avoid hazards, such as pedestrians.
The company has finished adjustment of prototype models and mass production will begin soon.
When using the AR device, drivers can clearly see routes, distance information and other holographic images on windshields 鈥 it is just like playing video games.
鈥淲e鈥檝e been working hard to simplify windshield display interface to avoid causing distractions for drivers,鈥 Zhu Jun, the company鈥檚 general manager said, adding that for them safety is the first priority when they design holographic images appearing on windshields.
For example, only directions and speed limit information are provided while driving.
When the car stops at a traffic signal, information about potential points of interest along the route, such as restaurants and gas stations, can be notified.
Zhu said that the product integrated many technologies, including optics, chemistry, engineering, design and software development but not a single one is dispensable.
The fifth branch of Swiss enterprise Wayray opened at the Jiading base of Alibaba Innovation Center in March. As a holographic AR technology supplier founded in 2012, the company has built an international professional team, and established its own R&D center and a prototype production plant.
It has developed from an innovative startup firm into a mature research enterprise for holographic material and optical systems.
Wayray has partnered in several successful projects with automakers, including Porsche, Honda and Rinspeed. Last year, it won an investment of tens of millions of US dollars from Alibaba and SAIC.
While choosing a location for its branch, Wayray took two points into consideration. On one hand, Jiading is a world-famous automobile industry base. On the other, Alibaba Innovation Center can provide a full range of services which offers convenience to startups.
