Hospital getting ready for patients

The Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital on Moyu Road N. is close to completion. Occupying an area of almost 66 acres it has 1,500 beds in a floor area of 222,800 square meters. The hospital is expected to be open to the public for trial operation by June.
Apart from one for outpatients and emergencies, the construction of buildings for administration, medical technologies, wards and recovery has been completed with the interior decoration in its final stages.
Facilities have been installed and tested. Equipment such as beds and medical equipment will be moved in after the Spring Festival.
The first floor of the outpatient building will be for registration, offices, emergencies, drips and the medical department while the second floor will have three operating theaters for outpatients and 48 diagnosis rooms for the surgical department.
The hospital has 30 operating theaters, among which are sic laminar flow operating theaters where special air purification technologies take control of microorganism pollution, greatly reducing the chance of infection.
The hospital has taken convenience into account. Its design makes it possible for patients to walk around between different departments and buildings easily. Each ward is equipped with sensotronic lockers and an individual toilet.
The rooms with best locations for sunshine are all for patients.
As the first approved three-star eco-friendly architecture of national military medical hospitals, energy-efficient design has been reflected in many areas. The photoconductive lighting system the hospital adopted makes it possible to grow plants even in the basement. Natural light is collected by 24 pillar-like structures outside the building and redistributed to the basement or anywhere it is needed.
Solar panels of about 1,000 square meters have also been installed on the roof to generate power to heat water.
The hospital is to be developed into large-special and small-general departments.
The hospital plans to recruit more doctors not only from other hospitals such as Changhai Hospital, Changzheng Hospital but also through social recruitment processes.
