Jiading New Town takes shape

SINCE early this year, Jiading New Town has been endeavoring to present a brand-new image by carrying out various projects and developing commercial and infrastructure facilities.

Central to this effort is a local government sanctioned blueprint for a commercial cluster to accommodate the headquarters of listed companies. Currently, East Money Information Co Ltd is submitting application documents to locate their headquarters at the cluster. Several other enterprises including Jiangsu Zhongtian Technology Co Ltd and Da Cheng Group also plan to move their national or regional headquarters to Jiading New Town.

Meanwhile, the crucial support infrastructure designed to lure big companies and their workers are taking shape. On November 3, plans for Xinhui Plaza, a new shopping mall, were unveiled in Jiading. The project, with an expected area of 120,000 square meters, has a total investment exceeding 800 million yuan (US$126 million).

Department stores, chain stores and businesses in residential areas will complement each other to form a vibrant business environment in Jiading New Town. Currently, three main commercial streets, four shopping malls and seven community centers have taken shape in the city.

Seven five-star hotels have set their sights on Jiading New Town as well. Most will start construction within the year.

Eight social welfare projects are currently in full swing. The New Town Library is nearing completion and its interior fittings are being installed. Ruijin Hospital's North Branch will open to the public next October. The district's maternity hospital and Defu Elementary School are completed. The new dormitory of Shanghai Hua'er Junior Middle School is under construction, while other projects such as the Workers' Cultural Center, Science Education Center and two kindergartens are also in full swing.

In addition, the government has also started building nine new roads along with 23.1 kilometers of pipes and power lines to supply electricity, natural gas and water.
