Laser power to curb factory emissions

Shanghai Laser Power Unit & Equipment Co Ltd in Jiading District recently launched a new kind of laser power supply unit to the market which can reduce factories鈥 PM2.5 emissions.

The power supply unit is mainly used in electrostatic precipitators of factories such as power plants, cement plants and metallurgic plants, and it is essential for those factories to reduce the dust they emit.

Chen Yuyuan, general manager of the company, said the unit gives an electric charge to dust through high-pressure static electricity, and then the dust sticks on a dust-collection plate instead of flying off.

Before the company put the power unit into market, only a few foreign companies sold the product in China market at a high price. The company came up with the device based on research into high power laser devices by the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics since 2008.

With the use of the Laser technology, units in operation at the Shidongkou Power Plant in Baoshan District are said to have reduced the escapement ratio of dust by more than 30 percent, while the amount of electricity used has been reduced by 25 percent.
