Local tech firm inks US$40m lidar deal with US company

Hesai Technology signed a lidar order worth over US$40 million with a leading American Robotaxi company, the Jiading-based enterprise announced recently.
Hesai Technology will serve as the sole lidar supplier, providing long-range and short-range lidar products, and the order is scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2026. Lidar is an optical technology that measures distances by sending and receiving laser light.
“The deepened cooperation confirms the recognition of Hesai’s technical strength, product quality and large-scale mass-production ability by global leading Robotaxi,” said Li Yifan, co-founder and CEO of Hesai Technology.
Hesai Technology held a 61 percent market share in the global L4 autonomous driving lidar market in 2024, ranking first for four consecutive years, and is the preferred core sensor supplier for leading global autonomous driving enterprises, according to the 2025 Global Automotive Lidar Market Report released by the international organization Yole Group.
Mass production order
In August, Hesai Technology announced that it had obtained the mass-production order of lidar for a joint venture brand under Toyota Motor.
Its new energy vehicles will be equipped with Hesai’s compact ultra-high-definition long-range lidar ATX, which will be produced on a mass scale in 2026.
In the first six months of 2025, the total delivery volume of Hesai Technology’s lidars reached 547,913 units, an increase of 276 percent year-on-year, exceeding the total delivery volume of 2024, demonstrating strong market growth momentum and large-scale delivery ability.
Hesai Technology has established a solid global business layout in the United States, Europe and Asia, with customers in more than 40 countries around the world.
