Logistics warehouse goes automatic for the people
Jd.com, a leader in e-commerce in China and listed in Nasdaq, invited media to visit its complete automatic logistics warehouse in Jiading, “Asia No. 1,” last month.
The 40,000-square-meter warehouse is the third phase of the giant distribution center which processes 200,000 parcels a day, mainly electronic products and cosmetics.
“The self-developed ‘intelligent brain’ of the system can calculate 68 billion possible routes for more than 300 robots in 0.2 seconds. The efficiency of the warehouse is three times faster than before, and it is at the leading level in the world,” said warehouse director Pu Pujiang,
“The automatic warehouse can judge and correct errors by itself, and even has the capability of self-healing. It can also collect data information and make judgment on bugs,” Zhang Genyun, chief planner of the company’s logistics sector, said.
Jiang Shan, who has worked for the company for two years, said: “I was a worker in the first phase of the ‘Asia No. 1’ and I sorted the parcels on the production line. When I was transferred to the automatic warehouse, I was shocked to see robots replacing all workers at every position of the production line.”
Jiang said that previously his workload had been heavy. “Now I have learned new skills and do more meaningful work.”
