Medical team helps out in Yunnan
LI Zhengxiu received a letter during the National Day holiday, which said one of his seriously ill patients, a teen-aged girl, has been recovering in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
"It is a best present for the holiday," the doctor said with a smile.
Li was one of the five members of a Jiading District medical team that was sent about a month ago to Yunnan's Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture for one week.
Hearing the news that Shanghai doctors had come to offer free service for the locals, many Tibetan people came to see them.
Li found a Tibetan girl who looked abnormal.
After a simple check-up Li believed that the girl had suffered from hydrothorax and advised her parents take her to hospital immediately.
An X-ray showed the girl had tuberculosis, which caused serious hydrothorax as diagnosed by Doctor Li.
Another team member Doctor Chen Xia taught local physicians how to operate medical instruments and how to do CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) after discovering the defibrillators and cardiogram monitors were covered with dust in the emergency room.
Chen also taught local doctors how to diagnose and treat acute pulmonary edema as many migrant workers from other provinces suffered from such illness there.
