More, wider roads improve traffic flow

Many Jiading drivers are busy updating their navigation systems as the district has been building more new roads in recent years.

Hujia Highway (S5), the first highway on the Chinese mainland, is the main channel connecting Jiading and the city center.

However, the four-lane highway is now too narrow to handle the increasing traffic flow.

Jiading launched a renovation project for the highway in recent years, not only expanding it to a six-lane highway, but also strengthening the roadbed and bridges. The whole project will be complete in the first half of 2014.

In the meantime, Jiamin Elevated Road, which connects Jiading and the Hongqiao Traffic Hub in Minhang District, will play an important role in Jiading’s road system and share the burden of Hujia Highway. Construction is ongoing.

Close to the Malu Station of Metro Line 11, there is the Huxiang Highway (S6). It runs eastward to Baoshan District and connects Jiajin Highway and the Outer Ring Road to relieve traffic pressure in various directions.

The second period construction of Jiasheng Road has started to relieve traffic pressure between Jiading and Baoshan, as the construction of Taxin Road connecting Liuxiang Road to Baoshan has also begun.

Both roads will share the pressure of Bao’an Road to promote the logistics operation in the northwest Shanghai region.

In the south of the district, the section of Waiqingsong Road between Moyu Road S. and Bao’an Road and the bridges on Jihe Road and Huajiang Road are also under construction to enable the network to handle the increased traffic flow and be more convenient for drivers.
