Owner hankered for HK desserts so opened shop
ABOUT 40 shops scatter along the traditional Jiading Town Old Street, ranging from cafes and dessert shops to others selling jewelry and ceramics.
At the corner near Qinghe Road is a shop named "Love at the Corner." The 70-square-meter shop consists of two floors, the top one for board games and the first floor serving dessert.
Shop owner Cai Peipei, 23, studied for four years in Guangdong Province and on returning to Jiading she missed the delicious Hong Kong-styled desserts served there. So, she opened this boutique with her sister.
They serve about 100 types of desserts that are very popular among youngsters. The stewed milk bean curd is the leading favorite. Only 30 of them are made each day to ensure freshness and good taste. So make sure to come early for a try.
The wooden stairs lead to the second floor which has 12 tables offering a dozen free board games like Mikado Saiel and Wood Toy's. You can order a dessert for a full day's free playing. The highlight of the second floor is the "stars and moon" pasted on the ceiling, which glitter at night.
Heading south from the shop, you can find another eye-catching store selling stones. It has various types of crystals, jade, fluorite, emerald and so on. It also sells DIY jewelry and prices range from 1 yuan to over 1,000.
