Plenty options for offering a helping hand
JIADING residents who would like to do some voluntary work can choose from a wide range of options — including parenting, environmental protection and helping people with disabilities.
“I’m so happy to play with Uncle!” one boy said at a recent family support activity. The uncle is volunteer Li Min, who has taken on a parenting role with him. Jiading Town, where the boy lives, runs a “being a temporary parent” volunteer service.
Recently, a dozen volunteers joined up with families facing difficulties, accompanying kids on a tour to see the development in Jiading.
“We try to make them feel happy through the volunteer service, which makes me feel that I’m doing something useful,” Li said.
At Jiading Industrial Zone, 49 volunteers have helped 39 students and people with disabilities fulfill some dreams, including business help.
And in Xuhang Town, more than 50 units and 1,700 volunteers take part in 10 charity projects.
Meanwhile, Zhenxin sub-district has made 2014 Public Benefit Year and is running charity events. These include encouraging residents to hand-in unwanted items so someone else can use them and asking gardeners to provide tuition in growing plants.
