Relocation rampant in area's redevelopment

QUITE a few enterprises in Jiading District have been relocated in recent years to give way to the construction of Jiading New City and its supporting public facilities.
Shanghai Acrel Electrical Co Ltd moved to Madong Industrial Zone in Malu Town more than two years ago, in a bid to support the development of Jiading New City. The new site is eight times larger than its original site on Hongde Road. The company has set up a new product workshop, test department and several laboratories since its relocation. The staff has grown from 80 to 260, most of them are dedicated to sales, research and development. The company leads in the smart power distribution network and power-monitoring instrument industry with its production value hitting 140 million yuan (US$21.29 million) last year.
The Shanghai branch of Japan-based Fortune 500 Kobe Steel Group was relocated from its original site at the south part of Jiading Industrial Park to the north part in 2007. The new factory covers an area of 8,490 square meters. The company has upgraded its product lines.
Shanghai Kostal-Huayang Automotive Electric Co Ltd made way for the construction of a recreational center of Anting Town on Moyu Road, which was open to the public at the end of last year. The company has seen huge growth in three years with more than 1,700 staff and sales surging to more than 1.9 billion yuan last year.
