Residents feel the warmth of a caring community
IN the freezing cold of the chilly winter, residents in Jiading are feeling warmth of a caring community.
Zhang Xuecai, 88, received a scarf knitted by young volunteers on December 29.
It was the first time for many of the young volunteers knitting the scarves, so they chose simple patterns. But Zhang didn't mind and said he was very happy to receive the warm gift.
Lu Fengqin in Xuhang Village of Xuhang Town was happy to learn she was healthy after having a free gynecological exam organized by the local village government.
Lu grew up in Gaoyou City of neighboring Jiangsu Province. Her husband died soon after they married and she was responsible for earning income for her child and elderly parents.
She said she often felt an ache in her lower abdomen, which caused her a lot of worry. But she never had an exam before because of the cost.
The village authority organized a free check. After a careful check by doctors from the district's Maternal and Child Care Service Center, Lu learned there was nothing wrong.
"Thanks to village authorities, the health check solved my puzzle and I can have a happy New Year," she said.
When the weather turner colder, Ge Jiamin, who is severely sight impaired, found it inconvenient to go to the hospital every week to get the medicine.
Song Qi, a community volunteer of Meiyuan Neighborhood in Jiading Town volunteered to get the medicine for him. "When I put my hands on Song's shoulders I feel so safe", said Ge.
