Returning overseas talent nurtures new crop of entrepreneurs

SEVEN new entrepreneurial projects rooted in the talent and efforts of returning overseas Chinese have located in the Jiading Entrepreneurial Park for returned overseas students since the start of the year.
Established 15 years ago, the park is now home to 213 companies. Last year, it generated production value of 650 million yuan (US$96.4 million) and tax revenue of 37 million yuan.
The site once was home to more than 300 enterprises, but about a third of them have been shuttered because of fierce market competition. The main industries currently in the park include optical, mechanical and electronic integration, software, new energy, new materials and auto parts.
The park is not only a cradle for entrepreneurs, but also a magnet for specialized talent. Many managers of companies that have succeeded in the park actively mentor peers from small and medium-sized enterprises.
Gu Maozhong, board chairman of Shanghai Dite Precision Fastener Co Ltd, has become such an "entrepreneurial mentor," supporting the efforts of a mobile phone games developer.
The park's six city-level mentors, together with 10 tutors, hold symposiums, training classes and exchange activities.
Because of limited land available at the park, a new industrial base will be established in the northern area of Jiading Industrial Park to relocate some of the enterprises.
