Rising number of talented young people returning home to establish their careers

In recent years, more Jiading-born young people have returned to their hometown after pursuing study outside the suburban district, not only because of the homesickness, but also the attraction of Jiading, which has developed so rapidly beyond their imagination.

“When I was enrolled to East China University of Political Science and Law in 2009, the area where the existing Jiading New Town stands used to be a large piece of farmland,” said Lu Yihui, who now studies finance at the University of Rochester in the Unites States. He transferred to study at Rochester after three years’ undergraduate education in China. Every time when he gets home, Lu is deeply impressed by the great changes taking place in Jiading. “Jiading is now developing pretty rapidly, no matter in machinery manufacturing, biomedicine or finance,” Lu said.

After exchanging ideas with others sharing similar experience with him, he decided to give up an internship for a hedge fund in New York and come back to Jiading when his studies are complete.

While attracting overseas students to return, Jiading is also inviting local students to come back.

Jin Xin, a postgraduate student majoring economic law at Fudan University, received an invitation from Jiading Procuratorate a year before his graduation. “It was pretty attractive,” Jin said, “and they preferred Jiading-native students.” This summer, Jin started his internship in the prosecution department of Jiading Procuratorate. “At first I thought I would have few things to do, but the fact was that they did give me a lot of practical work such as bringing the suspect to trial, making records, taking evidence and delivering legal documents,” Jin said.

In January 2010, Lu Miaomiao, a student of East China University of Political Science and Law received an offer from China Mobile, which asked her to start work in July. The question for Lu was how to spend the next six months?

Then, Jiading New City Development Company, where Lu used to have an internship, invited her to continue her work there. Within three years, Lu reached a salary equivalent to what China Mobile was offering. “I feel lucky that I made the right decision to stay in Jiading,” Lu said.
