Riverside theater building set to start

SHANGHAI'S first riverside theater will be built in northwest Jiading New City, with construction due to start in June and be completed in 2013.
The design was unveiled recently for the 1,500-seat theater, which will cost 700 million yuan (US$102.5 million). It will become a new cultural landmark in Jiading.
Covering an area of 50,000 square meters, it will incorporate natural elements such as water, light and wind and will be dedicated to opera and classical music concerts.
It will also feature a multi-function hall for 400 people.
Designed by Tadao Ando, a Japanese architect, and built by Poly Group, the project will combine international trends with Jiading's history and culture, evolving a new form of architecture and reflecting a unique cultural taste.
World-class facilities will guarantee perfect performances including opera and drama. It will be a stage for all outstanding artists and art groups from all over the world.
