Sewage pipe network to bring a cleaner environment

JIADING District will complete its basic sewage pipe network of the urbanized areas by the end of this year. Meanwhile, Jiading will maximize its protection of water resources and the region will enjoy a better ecological environment.
Jiading has newly added 130 kilometers of sewage pipes connected to 1,522 households in the past three years. Now the district has three sewage treatment plants and the sewage treatment capacity reaches 380,000 tons per day. In the next five years, Jiading will set up a new Nanxiang sewage treatment plant and expand the existing plants. The newly added sewage treatment capacity will reach 600,000 tons per day, covering 85 percent of the daily waste water, and the total length of the pipe network will reach 200 kilometers by the end of 2016.
Jiading houses a number of industrial parks and it would cause serious pollution if all the industrial waste water flow directly into the rivers. All the 500 enterprises in Madong Industrial Park have entered the sewer network.
Almost 100 percent of Jiading's main industrial zones have been fully covered with the sewage treatment network. According to local authorities, connecting existing pipes of the enterprises into the sewage network is much more difficult than installing new pipes.
The transformation of the existing sewage pipe network in the old town is another big challenge.
Jiading Industrial Zone has paid more than 3 million yuan (US$463,317) to build the sewage pipe network with a total length of 4.2 kilometers in the past three years, which solves the sewage problem of 112 local households.
