Jiading District has passed an assessment check, with high marks, on setting up a national demonstration area for disabled people. The district started to build up a service system for disabled people in 2006. It has spent 65 million yuan (US$10.7 million) on the system. Currently, 770 disabled people are being cared for in institutions in the district while another 820 receive care at home.
