Thousands turn up for free art lectures
The Jiading-based Shanghai Poly Grand Theater has been offering free art lectures since the beginning of the year.
Peking Opera artist Shang Changrong and dancer Huang Doudou were the first two invited to speak.
A total of 42 lectures have been held, attracting an audience of over 20,000 people.
The theater in Jiading New Town, with its unique “waterscape auditorium,” has become a cultural landmark since it opened to the public in September 2014 .
With a total investment of 700 million yuan (US$109 million), the theater includes an opera playhouse, a multifunctional hall and a roof auditorium.
More than 200 troupes as well as over 17,000 performers have been seen at the theater, attracting 600,000 theatergoers.
The lecture program also extends to local communities. More than 400 lectures have been held in towns and at district level in the past year.
Meanwhile, the fourth work in the “China Choir” animation series was launched last October. Over 50,000 copies of the collection of children’s folk rhythms have been distributed.
An etiquette training course is also underway. Nearly 300,000 people attended the course.
The district holds an “Our Festivals” series of activities regularly and created the “Homeland of New Jiadingers” through its “Culture Jiading Cloud” online digital service platform.
