Vintage cars added to Auto Museum

SHANGHAI Auto Museum recently put 10 vintage cars to its show collection, adding to its allure as a visitor destination. In July alone nearly 10,000 people visited the museum.

The oldest of the new additions is a Rover 14HP, manufactured in 1946. Established in 1904 in Britain, Rover Co vehicles were popular among European royal families, top government officials and society's elite. Rover cars, in many people's eyes, still represent the height of engine and auto design in Britain. The Rover 14HP has a 1.9L 6-cylinder engine together with the typical British-style leather interior and wooden dashboard. Another Rover in the collection is a P5, which used to be the private car for former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and at least one pope.

The 1960 BMW Isetta has been dubbed the loveliest BMW ever built. Although it has been out of production for many years, its style remains classic. A true BMW aficionado still marvels over its egg-shaped contours and a most eye-catching front door. It was an ideal choice for average wage earners, and 13,000 Isetta cars were sold in the first year of its manufacture.

Mazda is one of the few living giants with a rotary engine model. Its Cosmo Sport series was the first to use the rotary engine in Japan. The museum is sporting the Cosmo Sport 10A, which has a 491cc?2 water cooled bi-rotary engine.
